ABFF Rules/Guidelines

Bodybuilding:
* Judged on symmetry, overall conditioning, and overall mass
* Poses that include lying down on stage are not allowed.
* Feet must remain flat on the floor.
* Metallic suits are not allowed.
* Jewelry is not allowed (wedding bands are acceptable).
* Previous overall winners are now eligible to repeat if they have not placed in the top five in a national-level contest, and don't need to re-qualify.
* Women may wear multi-colored suits and jewelry in the evening show. 
 

Fitness:
Includes one two-piece round with heels and one routine round
* Two piece judged on: degree of firmness, symmetry, proportion and the overall physical appearance (complexion, poise and overall presentation).
* Routine judged on: style, athletic coordination, personality, strength moves, endurance and overall performance.
* Routine should be approximately 2 minutes and may include dance, gymnastics, and aerobic moves. Props are allowed but please check with the promoter for approval.
* Routine should include the following moves : high kick, straddle hold, pike hold, one arm push up, straddle jump, and splits (side or middle)
* No jewelry during routine
* No swim suits, t-back, or thong during two piece round

Judging Criteria

Competitors will be judged in two-piece suits and clear high heels. Suits may be of any color, pattern, and style and it should cover at least 50% of the glutes and the suit should cross behind the lower back, and the strings should hook to the bottoms. Suits should be in good taste and no thongs/T-back bottoms will be permitted. Competitors are advised to bring two suits to check-in to avoid this.

Judges will evaluate competitors on the following criteria:

  • Muscle Tone and Definition – A specific level of muscularity, definition and tone is sought and excessive mass is not desired in the figure category. Figure competitors should be well defined and muscles should flow nicely into the triceps and biceps. There should be a taper in the lats into the oblique noticeably flowing into the sweep of the upper thigh.
  • Symmetry and Proportion – In addition to presenting an overall healthy-looking, shapely muscular and lean body, figure competitors should have an even flow throughout the body, No body part should stand out from the rest.
  • General Presentation – Competitors should display execution of quarter turns and figure walk, posture, confidence, and stage presence. Other factors that can affect overall appearance are skin tone, complexion, suit fit and selection, hair and make-up.

Pre-judging

Individual Presentation

Each competitor will walk out to house music.  They will proceed to center stage where they will have 15 seconds to display their physique in the poses of their choice. Competitors should choose poses that display their physiques in the most favorable manner. The competitor then proceeds to the opposite side of the stage and remain in stance of their choice until each competitor has had a turn.

Group Comparisons

Each class is brought to front center stage and is guided through quarter turns to display physiques from the front, left, back, and right. The front and rear stances are to be with head and eyes facing the same direction as the body, heels together, knees together and slightly bent, both arms hanging relaxed and slightly back from tips of the fingers horizontal to the hip level. The side poses: head and eyes facing the same direction as the body, heels together, knees together, keeping your shoulders back, NO TWISTING at waist, both arms hanging relaxed at hip level.

Finals

The individual portion during Finals consists of a stage walk. The competitor walks out to music of their choice or house music to center stage and performs 4 poses of their choice before exiting the stage.  Individual presentations should be done tastefully and be conducive to a family atmosphere.  Bodybuilding-type poses, fitness moves (like push-ups) and costumes/props are allowed. Competitors will be allowed 60 seconds to complete their stage walks, depending on size of show and discretion of the promoter.


Bikini: Includes a personal preferred model walk
JUDGING CRITERIA:
  • Muscle Tone and Definition – A specific level of muscularity or leanness is not sought after for ABFF bikini competitors, but competitors should display overall muscle tone without an abundance of muscularity.
  • Symmetry and Proportion – In addition to presenting an overall healthy-looking, shapely and toned body, ABFF bikini competitors should present good symmetry, balance, shape, and proportion when viewed from all sides.
  • General Presentation – Competitors should display good poise, posture, confidence, and stage presence. The presentation should not be overly suggestive and competitors may be marked down for inappropriate presentations. Other factors that can affect overall appearance are skin tone, complexion, suit fit, hair and make-up.
Prejudging:

Individual Presentation

The competitor walks out to house music to center stage, performs half turns to show front and rear poses, then proceeds to opposite side of the stage to display stance of choice until all competitors have completed their turn. Judges will provide instructions from there.

Group Comparisons

Each class is brought to front center stage and is guided through quarter turns to display physiques from the front, left, back, and right. The front and rear stances are to be with one hand on a hip and the opposite hip extend outward; legs should not be crossed in the rear pose.  The side poses are flexible. Competitors should use the stances they feel display their physiques in the most favorable manner. Feet may be together or one may be slightly in front of the other; knees (or a knee) may be straight or bent; hands may be at the side or one or both may be on the hip. Competitors may twist at the waist to turn their upper torso toward the judges. Stances should be fairly relaxed and competitors should not appear to be flexing


Main Show:
The competitor walks out to music of their choice or house music to center stage and pauses briefly in a stance of their choice. They then perform half turns to show their front and rear poses, then exit the stage.  Individual presentations should be done tastefully and be conducive to a family atmosphere.  Bodybuilding-type poses, fitness moves (like push-ups) and costumes/props should be avoided. Competitors will be allowed 60 seconds to complete their stage walks.

Men's Physique:

Pre-judging

* Each competitor will walk out to house music.  They will proceed to center stage where they will have 15 seconds to display their physique in the stances of their choice. Competitors should choose stances that display their physiques in the most favorable manner. Once quarter turns are completed, competitors will proceed to opposite side of stage and remain in stance of their choice until all competitors have completed their turn. Judges will provide instructions from there.

Group Comparisons

Each class is brought to the front center state and is guided through quarter turns to display physiques from the front, left, back and right. There will be no twisting while doing the side relaxed poses.  Arms must be at your side with your shoulders squared.

 
The evening presentation will be an individual stage walk along with house music.
* The competitor should wear board shorts and wear no shoes.

* Judges will be looking for fit contestants who display proper shape and symmetry combined with muscularity and overall condition. This is not a bodybuilding contest so extreme muscularity will be marked down.

Women's Physique:

Judging Criteria

* Women’s Physique competitors should have the overall aesthetics and look that is found in figure but with a little more overall muscularity. Judges will take into consideration; symmetry, shape, proportion, muscle tone, poise and stage presents. Jewelry is allowed, but keep it simple.

Prejudging

Each class is brought to the front center state and is guided through quarter turns to display physiques from the front, left, back and right. There will be no twisting while doing the side relaxed poses.  Arms must be at your side with your shoulders squared.  Following this round of comparisons you will be asked to display the mandatory poses, which are:

  • Front Double Biceps/ Open Hands – (no flat footed full front poses, must do some sort of front twisting pose)
  • Side Triceps with Leg Extension (both sides)
  • Side Chest with Arms Extended (both sides)
  • Back Double Biceps/ Open Hands
  • Front Abs/Thigh

Individual Presentation/Night Show

The individual presentation during the night show consists of a stage walk as seen above. The competitor will walk out to music of their choice not too exceed 60 seconds. Individual presentations should be done tastefully and be conducive to a family atmosphere.
